People basically run a high voltage through the wood and it burns interesting patterns. While it is not exactly spalted, it looks similar enough that it might be an acceptable replacement. | |

Not circles of course but you should be able to draw shapes. I think it would be like the left hand side of the bowl. The right hand side has that dark line with huge contrast so I don't know if it would work there. | |
