You could strip the oil-based paint using one of a variety of available strippers, and then use denatured alcohol to remove the shellac. Shellac is often used as a sealant to prevent knots bleeding through the paint, so I imagine it would adhere fine. And the oil-based paint would be more resistant to scratching than the latex paint. | |
