Jun 14, 2022 at 19:59 | comment | added | Joshua Frank | @Graphus I just updated my question with a description of what I'm talking about. Even if I were very wealthy, which I am not, solid panels wouldn't be good in this situation.
Jun 14, 2022 at 18:32 | comment | added | Graphus | Well FWIW when I read panel I did assume ply, making 3/4" a safe bet as the max thickness and hence my comment. Hopefully the OP will clarify some details for us.
Jun 14, 2022 at 15:30 | comment | added | Caleb | @Graphus OP didn't specify anything about the panels. They could just be sheets of 3/4" plywood (if OP is very wealthy!), or 2x2 or 2x4 frames filled with hog wire, etc. I expect that there's some wood involved given the nature of this forum, but I tried not to make too many other assumptions.
Jun 14, 2022 at 13:54 | comment | added | Graphus | @JoshuaFrank, what species of deer? How many?
Jun 14, 2022 at 13:53 | comment | added | Graphus | +1. The only thing that gives me pause is the hold of the screws long-term (or in the short term if the deer interact with the panels repeatedly!) since presumably the maximum length that can be used will be approximately 5/8".
Jun 14, 2022 at 13:48 | comment | added | Joshua Frank | @WalnutClose: What would you suggest?
Jun 14, 2022 at 12:53 | comment | added | Walnut Close | Something hinge-like is definitely the right answer, but for practical use in an outdoor setting, you really want something much looser and more flexible than an actual leaf hinge. Screw eyes with loose pins would work much better. That said, the whole idea of building wood panels for deer control doesn't make much sense. There are better ways.
