I want to cut 2 squares into wood about 1" deep using this template:

I am using a tiny Dremel cutter bit and it's not very effective.

I thought maybe a jigsaw, but I don't want to cut all the way through the wood. Only about 1" or so deep into 2" wood. Then I could chisel the rest out.

I have a Dremel 4300 with the router attachment. Though without a guide I think I'd have a tough time doing this with the router.

I also have a Craftsman router with a table. I'm not great with a router. I've used it a few times over the years and it's been a long time.

Is there an easier way to do this?
